Around 150 representatives of Ukrainian social organizations protested on 14 June in Kiev against the plans to adopt bill No. 2450 which introduces restrictions on freedom of assembly. Protests against the draft law have been taking place for several days also in other Ukrainian cities; several activists have gone on a hunger strike outside the Ukrainian Parliament. Under the proposed law, demonstration organizers would be required to give local authorities four days’ notice before staging the protest and demonstrations could be banned completely from certain places. The second reading of the bill is scheduled for 17 June but the Speaker of the Parliament, Volodymyr Lytvyn, did not rule out introducing changes to the schedule.
